I can remember when I hired my best potty training teacher, and I also how I almost missed out on hiring her.
Here is the backstory, I met my potty trainer teacher, Ms. Pam it really wasn’t a formal interview.
At first, I wasn’t going to hire her because I thought she was full of the wrong intentions. I was using more street knowledge than anything at that time because I wasn’t good at hiring.
I didn’t have the understanding of how to recognize a good hire. And I felt like she wasn’t going to be a good fit because I didn’t know what to look for in an employee, but as chance would have it, while I was setting up my facility, she will come by at least once a week and check on me and as I got close to the opening date, I hadn’t hired anyone and I knew I needed to do something. Well Ms. Pam kept coming by and she kept asking how the process was going along, she was also very positive. Her consistent follow-up with me is what made me say, ok, I’ll give it a chance. BUT I was skeptical instead of professional.
There was no actual hiring process that I had in place. By grace, I decided to hire her, and I’m so glad that I did because she had significant experience with toddlers and potty training. Upon hiring her she took a liking to work with two-year-olds and doing for the childcare program, that several other people didn’t like to do in the center like working with two-year-olds.
So now that I have someone on my team that enjoys working with toddlers, I began to grow a relationship with her and found out that she has experience with potty training, and her love of potty training and my skill for marketing we combined that and develop our toddler room based around our potty training.

P.S. – Continuing the story, Pam stayed with me for about 2 1/2 years until we had a conflict because I don’t have a skill set to keep her onboard and manage the conflict that happened with staff.
P.S.S. – I lost one of the best people in my company, and then after losing her, she found places to work, and she increased her worth and value, she no longer wants to work on my team because I didn’t grow and evolve.
