Your childcare learning environments speaks for you (The Owner), your brand and it affects your enrollment or the type quality parent that enrolls in your childcare business. So many parents take their children to places that they can afford and most of the places they can afford are run down, old, carry odors, dim lighting, poor material management, mix matching furniture, no real curriculum and just a germ generating place. I know that’s not you, but how is it that these programs have gotten to this low quality place? It’s the lack of inspections.

What Causes Lack Of Inspections?

Most of it is mindset and time management. I know you can deal with hundreds of small task a day but why leave potential increase out there because you didn’t make time for increase? I see and believe that my time spent inspecting my classrooms is like “Storing Up Money” in my bank account. I know that by investing my time now that I will attract the best clients now. Just because parents try to make you feel like they can’t afford a HIGH Quality program, don’t let that stop you from becoming or maintaining your HIGH standards in your childcare business.

Another issue is not holding your teachers accountable. Accountability flows from training and empowerment not consistently criticizing. Empower your teachers by your example and by giving them the information that they can take action upon. Then the next step is to follow up. You’ve got to follow up by surprise inspections and planned inspections. Within my childcare programs, Akeba Academy and The Rock, I host ongoing trainings for my team on excellence and how deep clean they way I want it, then I provide them with check list and set a deep clean day for Friday. Deep cleaning carries a lot more weight than daily cleaning, we literally SPRING clean on FRIDAYS!

Not only are they spring cleaning but they are also responsible for setting up the classrooms for the next week. Our childcare brands are built on providing educational opportunities and environments so I check my classrooms for proper set up in the following areas:

Andrea’s Classroom Inspection Much Know List:

1. Cubby Set Up– Review the classroom to be sure every cubby that belongs to a child is labeled and that a list of cubbies with names and numbers are posted.
2. Shelving Set Up- My toys and materials must be placed on the shelf the Akeba Academy way. I inspect to be sure that children can easily access materials.
3. Check Trash Cans- To ensure cans are cleaned, emptied and disinfected to keep down pest.
4. Learning Board Set Up- We use our learning boards everyday. Children master information because of our daily use of the learning board. I inspect to ensure that it’s current, well put together and cohesive.
